•Position title: Postdoctoral fellow in Bioinformatics of RNA subcellular localization

•Brief description of duties:

The RNA zipcode project is a genomics and bioinformatics project supported by Genome Canada, Genome Quebec, and AmorChem.

It aims to identify mechanisms of RNA subcellular localization and exploit them for various biotechnological applications. The project is a tight collaboration between three teams: Eric Lécuyer (IRCM; molecular biology and genomics), Mathieu Blanchette (McGill; bioinformatics and machine learning), and Jérôme Waldispühl (McGill; RNA bioinformatics). It involves the development and integration of several bioinformatics and machine learning approaches, and their application to large in-house genomics data sets. The project has a strong potential for the creation of a spin-off company in the near future.

Within the project, the fellow will develop new bioinformatics and machine learning tools, and analyze publicly-available and in-house data to shed light onto the mechanisms of RNA regulation, with a focus on subcellular localization. There will be significant opportunities for methodological innovation and for creating new biological insights that will then be validated experimentally. The research will involve a tight interaction with both wet-lab researchers, bioinformaticians, and machine learning experts.
