Historical Discourses is the McGill undergraduate journal of history. It is composed of the best essays written in the history discipline for that given year. The 2008 edition saw a wide variety of focuses and a relatively new focus of Sexuality and History. All editors did a great job of narrowing down the best essays and making the necessary edits to make already great papers even better. Special praise should be given to the cheif editor Troy Vettese for organizing the journal for 2008. His dilligence and attention to detail made it possible for the journal to make publication on time and even make it under the given budget.
My contributions to the journal was not as a traditional editor, but as Chief Layout Editor. I designed the layout and compiled the essays to make them look as good as they read. This required me to learn Quark Xpress in a relatively short time, as well as basic design elements. This project was a good experience to see how the publication process works and gain some experience in the field.
