Visual Novel

Visual Novel is one of my hobbies during leisure time. It is a game genre that focuses on the scenario and music rather than the graphical effect or strategies. Usually the games are presented as CG pictures & dialogues. Players can select several sub-storylines by giving different answers to the questions, also called key points of the game.

Visual novels are magic in such a way that you will get into the story very quickly without watching the lively animation or any CG movies. Those games with best scenarios will typically leave a huge amount of clues to you, but never let you predict the whole ending until the very last moment. Good games are not necessarily hero-ending games, but instead are most-likely the games that will reveal the profound aspect of real life to you.

Here I list a few games that I found most touching and ingenious in scenario and gameplay.

  • Ever 17   (of the Infinity Series by KID)

  • Remember 11   (of the Infinity Series by KID)

  • Fate/Stay Night   (by Type-Moon)

  • Clannad   (by Key)

  • Air   (by Key)

These provide me a new way of thinking and defining the scenario structure of the modern computer games. For example, the "Player View" is a new concept that defines 4th dimension of the game world: players are no longer be represented by charactors in the game, they are part of the game system!

I will include these concepts and elements in my future research project.
