The National Palace Museumm lies in the north of Taipei, and is home to a permanent collection of over 677,687 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks. It covers over 8.000 years of Chinese history from the Neolithic age to the late Qing Dynasty, mostly collected by emperors from ancient times. It features bronze, pottery, jade, ceramics, calligraphy and painting, and rare books, documents and curios. Most notable among the collection are the realistically edible-seeming "Jadeite Cabbage" and "Meat-shaped Stone", the carved concentric spheres of the "Ivory Ball" and the tiny but detailed "Carved Olive-stone Boat" (No bigger than your thumb). Pick up a souvenir or answer a question for points. |
