Rooney and Shevchenko auction shirts for SOS Children


Wayne Rooney and Andriy Shevchenko, two of the Premiership’s star strikers, have put aside club rivalry to support SOS Children and auction signed shirts to raise funds for the international children’s charity.

In their role as official FIFA/SOS Ambassadors, the two players joined forces ahead of the crucial Premiership clash at Stamford Bridge on 9 May to show their solidarity for orphaned children around the world.

Hot off the pitch after their last clash at Old Trafford, Rooney and Shevchenko exchanged signed shirts and posed for photos for the world’s largest orphan charity. The shirts will be auctioned on SOS Children's new Charity Auction ( to raise money for SOS Children’s work supporting orphaned and abandoned children around the world.

Rooney joined forces with SOS Children in October 2005 when he became the official FIFA/SOS Ambassador for England and pledged his support for 6 villages for 2006, the charity’s joint World Cup campaign with FIFA. Shevchenko, FIFA/SOS Ambassador for Ukraine since early 2005, is patron for the country’s first SOS Children’s Village currently being built near Kiev as part of the 6 villages for 2006 campaign.

The two shirts will be auctioned online on SOS Children’s website from 10am Wednesday 2nd May, closing on Sunday 13th May at 8pm.
