The web is more than simply about pointing and clicking, and a more than cursory understanding is necessary when you start having problems to troubleshoot or when you start becoming more of a "power-user". Of course, having a deeper understanding is necessary if you decide to do some development of some kind of application that runs on the web.

A first step is to read something about Mime Types and Plugins (not yet available). Next, you may want to read up Creating a Homepage. Finally, if you start getting fancier with your homepage, you'll want to read up on CGI scripts at SOCS (not yet available).
