12:13PM
Added window.onError=null for annoying people like Rachel.
10:40PM
My karate club now has a home on the web! You can check it out at
the NDG Karate
Club.
1:40pm
Many kudos go to Thomas
Choong for discovering that the Simpsons Medley available here was
corrupted. I wasn't able to find the original but I did manage to
find what seem to be a more recent version of the medley- there's a
few more sound bites and stuff.
11:48pm
Fixed a JavaScript bug that was pre-loading the wrong images, as well
as mistake in the link to Ryan's page in the Links section.
1:15AM
Happy Canada Day! And, more importantly, only 10 hours and 45
minutes left till the 18th Annual Montreal
International Jazz Festival begins! Woo-hoo!
Fixed a bug in the BGM frame. Also, I am discovered that the MIDIs sound like UTTER CRAP on the SB16 and I imagine that they will sound like similar kinds of crap on similar sound cards. If you want to enjoy them to their fullest, either buy a sound card with better MIDI instrument synthesis or get a software-based wavetable synthesizer.
Yes, I am acutely aware of the fact that this webpage is terminally boring and that absolutely nobody but myself cares to read these update comments. Yes, they will eventually be moved elsewhere.
2:45AM
Quite simply, I have far too much work right now to make any major
changes to this page. I won't abandon it and I will update it (the
major overhaul as promised) once I find the time yet again.
Added links to Anouk, Brian, Jimmy, Ian, Laura, Luiza, Malvika, Mark, Mathew, Mike, Navindra, Nick, Ryan, Shiu, Stanton, Steve, Thomas, and Yi in the Links section.
Do I actually know these people? In all honesty, no, but somehow I've managed to owe a not inconsiderable percentage of them sexual favours.
Added a link to my homepage at HASC in the Links section.
4:15PM
Happy belated New Year, y'all! I finally got a MIDI-capable keyboard and the
necessary cables... so you should be seeing some original music making it's
way here pretty soon (well, we'll have to see about that).
Rachel finally gave me permission to add a link to her page in the Links section. ;)
9PM
Added a link to Alex's page in the Links
section.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! |
Here's a bunch of sound clips from that absolutely wonderful Christmas-time classic, "A Charlie Brown Christmas", in mp3 form. They are all encoded at 56kps and 22kHz:
"Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all
about?"
- Charlie Brown
Stream: allabout.m3u [25.3Kb] |
"Of all the Charlie Brown's in the world, you're the Charlie
Browniest."
- Linus Van Pelt
Stream: brwniest.m3u [30.3Kb] |
"All I want is what I have coming to me. All I want is my fair
share."
- Sally
Stream: fairshar.m3u [30.1Kb] |
"Thanks for the Christmas card you sent me, Violet." "I didn't send you a Christmas card, Charlie Brown." "Don't you know sarcasm when you hear it?"
- Charlie Brown and Violet
Stream: sarcasm2.m3u [79.6Kb] |
"You think you're so smart with that blanket. What are you
going to do with it when you grow up?" "Maybe I'll make it into a sport coat."
- Lucy and Linus
Stream: sprtcoat.m3u [59.8Kb] |
"Look Charlie, let's face it: We all know that Christmas is a
big commercial racket- it's run by a big eastern syndicate, you
know."
- Lucy
Stream: syndicat.m3u [52.3Kb] |
5PM
Updated online bookmarks.
11:00AM
Changed Daichi's webpage title in the Links section.
11:20PM
Changed the titles of Alvin's and Andrew's webpages in the Links section.
Fixed "last modified" date for non-JavaScript-enabled browsers.
Yes, and I will also fix the intermediary gray frame problem with the
color-cycling loader soon...
Also, I'll be adding an ICQ WWW pager, content, and a slightly cleaner
interface/layout soon...
12:15AM
Uploaded an updated bookmarks file. Added some
links to the Links section. Also made a
quick fix to the JS code which does that color-cycling crap (multiple frames
should now color-cycle in unison).
1:20AM
Yes, I do realize that, despite my urgent rantings and ravings to the
contrary, this website is currently devoid of any real new content and
painfully filled (to the bursting point) with crappy and overly-flashy
graphics. This will change, soon... really. Meanwhile, go read stuff at
Spinnwebe or The Church of Euthanasia or
anything else that looks interesting in my Links section.
1PM
Moved the time/date stuff to a separate frame, added more detailed links.
6:30PM
Made a couple of aesthetic changes, removed the Contents Frame and added a
Table of Contents over the background image, made changes to improve the ease
involved with making future changes. Unfortunately, due to one of the
changes, Z2 is currently incompatible with M$IE 3.x, but, IMO, this is
no big loss. I will soon have a "homebrewed" string.split() method that will
take care of the compatibility problem.
4:30PM
Re-arranged the order of the "friends Links" (now arranged alphabetically according to first
name).
10:45AM
Reorganized the Links section.
Will probably add more "direct links" and upload an updated bookmarks file soon.
12:45AM
Mostly reorganized my bookmarks.
There should be far fewer dead links and slightly better
organization. The file now stands at ~95k.
10:45PM
Updated the online version of my bookmarks.
Note that is much bigger than before (~123k) and has not been organized since
the last time I made them available...
4PM
I d/led and installed ICQ this morning... So you can now reach me at
ICQ#4684971 (http://wwp.mirabilis.com/4684971).
If not for the fact that the chat software seems to be *veeeeery* buggy
(problems with fonts, bgs, etc) I would recommend it to more people...
Happy Halloween! |
Made a few small changes to make the webpage more Communicator-friendly. Mail me if there are any new problems!
Added the "optimally viewed with" information, bg music info, aboutZ2 pop-up window, and cleaned up more stuff... Adjusted the little buttons in the table of contents frame so that they seem to be "depressed" when you pass the mouse over them (as opposed to only being "depressed" when you pass the mouse over their corresponding links). Also, I rerecorded the little "event sounds".
I finally decided to just bite the bullet and u/l this stuff for the time being.
Did more fixing; fixed up logos, other minor corrections.
Added a couple of new logos, plus the JS time-based logo selector. Did a little cleaning up.
A couple of minor fixes here and there...
Ok, I seem to be more than a little wishy-washy. I've now also dropped explicit Crescendo support... the reason being that I have found that, for some inexplicable reason, Crescendo tends to chop off the ends of MIDI files (last couple of seconds are missing!).
Now, this site is optimally viewed with Netscape Navigator with LiveAudio (the default audio plugin), a MOD plugin such as the freely available MODPlug (get it at http://www.castlex.com/modplug).
Also, I changed the logo (to use the technical terms, I upped its spiffiness by 30%).
Got rid of Beatnik support. Yup, that's right, available one day, gone the next. The problem was that although Beatnik was cool for a few things (as it turns out, too few), it totally messed up the other plugins (MIDI&MOD), so I decided to can it. Unfortunately, this means that the JSEvent-triggered sounds will react a little bit more, uh, sluggishly (the replacement is the generic LiveAudio interface...).
So, that means that this site is now optimally viewed with a MIDI plugin such as LiveUpdate's Crescendo (freely available at http://www.liveupdate.com) and a MOD plugin such as MODPlug (freely available at http://www.castlex.com/modplug. Oh, yeah, and Netscape Navigator is a must. Soon to be tested with Communicator... (I can only assume that nothing earth-shatteringly bad will happen with Communicator)
Also made some minor changes and added the spiffy new Zibaland 2 logo.
Got rid of "The Tick" sound clips. Added bgms and Beatnik support. You can get the Beatnik plugin at http://www.headspace.com.
I would recommend getting both Beatnik and another MIDI plugin, such as LiveUpdate's Crescendo (available at http://www.liveupdate.com because although Beatnik is lots of fun for the Groovoids and other funky sounds, if you have a pretty good sound card, Beatnik makes regular midi sound like it is being passed through a cheese grater or a cheap radio station...
Of course, if you follow the "recommendation", then you'll also need a plugin manager to disable Beatnik's MIDI support. An example is Digigami's Plugsy, which is available at http://www.digigami.com/plugsy/. (otherwise, you will probably need to disable the conflicting midi plugin in order for Beatnik to work its evil magic).
Note that Beatnik support is not entirely very impressive as of yet.
Minor bug fixes (unaddressed compatibility issues). Updated Links, removed Dubious Hall of Fame, and some other minor changes.
Made some changes to interface. No changes to content. Note that I haven't really looked it over yet, so there may be bugs.
Also, the "251_secret" page is no longer quite as impossibly difficult to find. In case you were wondering, it used to be hidden in the dot (".") of "hang10.wav" below.
The cs251 topic#30: Directed Acyclic Graphs secret page is now located here.
Woo-hoo! It's Jet Li!
Zibaland 3's development has been postponed until the end of the semester... I am simply afraid that I don't have the time for it now. The new interface for Z2 will have to placate those few people who were complaining that my webpage was boring-looking (I agree) and had too much text (I disagree, a webpage can never have too much text, so long as the text is somewhat good).
Z3 will be eventually appearing at http://www.openface.ca/~zibalatz.
"[...]But I know the difference between right and wrong, thank God."
Joyce stared at the younger man in silence for a moment.
"You know the difference between right and wrong, " he repeated finally. "Man, why did you need Initiation- by the Golden Dawn, or by anybody else? You are a genius, a sage, a giant among men. You have solved the problem which philosphers have been debating since antiquity- the mystery about which no two nations or tribes have ever agreed, and no two men or women have ever agreed, and no intelligent person has ever agreed totally with himself from one day to the next. You know the difference between right and wrong. I am overawed. I swoon. I figuratively kiss your feet."
"Jeem, " Einstein said softly, "there is no need to be so sarcastic. Most young men are just as naive as Sir John."
[...]
"There is a difference, " Sir John said coolly, "between prejudice and principles."
"Yes, " Joyce replied. "Other people have prejudices; but I have principles. Just as other people are stubborn but I am firm, other people are egotists but I merely have self-respect, other people are drunks but I only like a drop now and then. Shall I conjugate a few more phrases like that? Other people are peculiar, but I am exotic. Other people are naive and gullible, but I have retained a certain childish innocence. Other people are too clever by half, but I have learned to express myself with elegance. Other people are sensualists, but I am a Romantic. Other people are paranoid, but I am merely careful. Other people are pigheaded fools, but I am merely a little set in my ways."
In my sincerest attempt at impartiality, I have sorted my friends' webpages alphabetically according to first name. If I've left anyone off the list who should be on, please e-mail me with an appropriately angry message.
For more links, check out my bookmarks. Note that the file is rather large (and growing) and that I haven't reorganized it in a while, hence there are undoubtedly lots of dead links amid the sites that I haven't checked out in a while.
This site is optimally viewed with Netscape Navigator 3.x or higher (if you don't know where to get this, I have no idea how you managed to make it so far in life without managing to seriously maim yourself) with LiveAudio (the default audio plugin) and a MOD plugin such as the freely-available MODPlug (get it at http://www.castlex.com/modplug). It also helps to be running at a screen resolution of 800x600 (or greater) and a color depth of 65536 (16-bit) colors (or greater).
I say that it is "optimally viewed" with Netscape as opposed to "best viewed" since this site really is best-viewed with any browser. It has been carefully designed to look good with many browsers in mind, including Lynx. The only exception to this rule is Netscape Navigator 2.x. If you are using Netscape Navigator 2.x, you must disable JavaScript or else you will be bombarded with JavaScript errors.
