MA & T in Alberta

22 days' driving, 2581 kilometers.

Highlights

Fossils: Cretaceous dinosaurs and Cambrian trilobites and soft bodies.

Rocky-Mountain hikes, especially Lake O'Hara and Lake Agnes.

Blackfoot peoples and archaeology near Brooks and Lethbridge.

Architecture and art in Calgary, Banff and Lethbridge.

Irrigation and farming.

Albertans are all welcoming and friendly.

Parks Canada are very well organized: August high-season crowds mean you can't find a parking spot at the trailheads after 8:30am (and sometimes 5:30), so they lay on schoolbuses to shuttle you from large overflow parking lots.

The smoke from B.C. and U.S. wildfires gave the Rockies the appearance of being not in-your-face but coyly awaiting discovery on the two or three days the air was clear after rain.
