Thrombolites at Flower's Cove. These are leftover mounds formed 3.5 G to 650 M years ago by cyanobacteria (sometimes called algae, as in blue-green algae). Similar ones, stromatolites, are found in Western Australia (Shark Pool of Hamelin Bay) where some are still living colonies.
