MA & T in Gros Morne: Tablelands
Where Gondwana and Laurasia collided 500M years ago closing the Iapetus Ocean
and forming Pangaea, then bounced apart starting the Atlantic Ocean, which is
why Scotland is part of the Appalachians. (The Atlantic has been growing at 2.5
cm/year for 200M years, squeezing the Pacific Ocean around the Ring of Fire.
Please check: how wide does that make the Atlantic today? Does there seem to be
a match between South America and Africa? Then look up the correct geology!)
During the bounce, what is now the mid-Atlantic Rift uplifted a section
of the Earth's mantle which became the Tablelands.
