Highlights

An hour's walk north of Hveragerði a 10-degree stream meets an 80-degree stream to form a cascade of hot tubs in the wild at a perfect 42 degrees.

A couple of hour's drive by superjeep north of Kirkjubaejarklaustur is the Lakagigar crater row, 27 kilometers long, which erupted continuously for seven months in 1783.

Sagas and Eddas from the Njál's Saga museum in Hvolsvöllur, the Egil's Saga museum in Borgarnes, the Snorrastofa (Snorri Sturluson, early 13th cent., writer of the Prose Edda and probably Egil's Saga) in Reykholt, and the Culture House in Reykjavík which features the joyous return of the Edda from Copenhagen in 1971, a film of the North American sagas of Eirik the Red, Lief the Lucky and Guðriður Þorbjornardóttir, and much more.

Spruce-up day at Höfn.

Basalt pillars at Reynisfjara and Kirkjubaejarklaustur, and architectural imitations in Reykjavík and around.
