What I Do In My Spare Time

You may wonder what, as an Electrical Engineering student turned CS Student, I do with my spare time. Then again, you might not, but I'm going to tell you anyway. Ever since high school, I have worked in technical theatre. People always ask me what "technical theatre" is, and the best explanation I can give is that technical theatre is every part of theatre that isn't acting. I've designed and built sets, I've designed and hung lighting plots, I've designed sound cues, and I've even worked on a few animatronic props. But the most impressive piece of theatre that I've worked on to date was Into The Woods by Music Theatre Montreal. And they're latest play will likely be even better.

No, this is not some spam post trying to increase MTM's page rank, I actually worked on the show too. I am the Master Carpenter for MTM's production of Cabaret, which I'm certain will establish MTM's reputation as a theatre company to be contended with. Most people think of "amateur" theatre as being silly, awkward, and unprofessional. Rather than trying to prove those assumptions wrong, tell me that this video is silly, awkward, and unprofessional.

Right? Yeah, that's what I thought. In all seriousness, a lot of people have put a lot of work into this show, and it's going to be incredible. Student tickets are $15, and MTM can offer group rates if you contact them in advance. You should totally see it; it's going to be incredible1.

1 - See the Cabaret sign in the back? I totally built that.
