Exams are done, and I have one month left in Montreal before I go on a corporate adventure. If I can have things my way, this will not be a quiet month of chilling out and vegetating, no, this is an opportunity to pursue more grandiose visions and learn about things my own way.
The Tech Think Tank and our friends at Startupifier are organizing a Summer Kickoff Hackathon for students, developers, designers, and business types for May 7th. I've never done a hackathon. I love how it sounds. I also like creative thinking and coding. I'm interested in startup culture. If that resonates with you in any way you should probably check out the details of this event.
One concept I, umm, conceived, a while ago is a crowd-sourced web crawler, where anyone can log in and control how data is retrieved from the web. It turns out such a thing exists, and it looks pretty cool: the not too originally named ScraperWiki. You contribute to the open movement of data collection and mining by coding up your own scraper in Python or PHP, or forking someone else's. My question is, maybe there would be a way to do something like this where you don't necessarily have to know how to code...
Hey check this out! The Tech Think Tank got blogged about over at NextMontreal. If you're interested in the Tech Think Tank you should totally send an email to thetechthinktank@gmail.com, we love emails. So much. Oh man.
For one, I have accepted an internship offer from Microsoft. I will be heading to Redmond to start an internship on May 31st. It was something else being out there for an interview.
Otherwise, there's this Tech Think Tank thing I'm working on at McGill. First meeting is this Wednesday. It's showing some preliminary promise...
All this is kind of detracting from my school work... I should be doing calc right now. Lame way to end this post!
Thanks for visiting my home page!
News about projects and other development will be posted here as news comes up.
