Disease Outbreak Detection Research

Under the direction of McGill Computer Science Undergraduate Program Director Dr. Doina Precup I have been doing research on disease outbreaks since the summer of 2010 in conjuction with the McGill Clinical and Health Informatics (MCHI) group. This approach to disease outbreak detection uniquely combines expertise from Computer Science and Epidemiology in a very meaningul way. I have been steadily working on methods with which to improve disease outbreak detection algorithms through the use of standard machine learning techniques. This is an approach that has seen very little use even though it presents great potential.
