Generally, they are good people to see first for your problems in the lab but don't be surprised to be told to go read the man pages.

The guys at the help desk are system administrators. They are the ones to see when:
It's one of the most useful email addresses to remember. For all problems relating to the systems and your account just send these guys an email. Similar to lab consultants, the system staff are paid to administer the system and help students out with system problems. They are not TA's and assignment and course questions should not be brought to them unless it concerns the system.
