Elections
It's election time for your 2013-2014 CSUS! If you haven't voted, make sure to check your inbox for an email from cro@mcgilleus.ca for your link to vote. Elections end Thursday at 6 pm, so make sure to get your votes in!
Confused about what the different positions mean, and what responsibilities they hold? Here's a summary:President
- Coordinate and supervise the affairs of the Society
- Call and chair over the council meetings
- Chair General Assemblies
- Serve as an ex-officio member of all Society committees
- Be the official representative of the Society
VP Academic
- Be responsible for all educational and curricular concerns of SOCS undergrads
- May represent a student, upon the demand of the student in writing, in any judicial or academic or social proceedings taken against the student by the university, or a delegate appointed by the university
- Sit on the faculty of science academic meetings
- Overseeing academic-related events (semester-end tutorials, events with profs, etc)
VP Administration & Communication
- Responsible for taking minutes of the CSUS meetings and General Assemblies
- Maintain the files of the CSUS
- Promote and coordinate communication within the society through listservs and social media (Facebook, Twitter)
VP External
- In the absence of the President, be empowered to perform any function of the President
- Be responsible for maintaining links with student organizations at the university, provincial, federal and international levels with computer student societies of other universities
- Represent the Society to other student societies, including SUS, and outside organizations
- Attend biweekly SUS meetings and relay important information back and forth.
VP Finance
- Prepare the annual budget of the CSUS
- Manage the funds of the CSUS
- Keep proper financial accounts and records
- Prepare a semester and monthly budgets for SUS
VP Internal
- Be responsible for the organization of social, cultural, and other activities of the members of the CSUS
- Responsible for coordinating and overseeing events, making sure they run smoothly
- Have a significant role in the planning and execution of all events, expected to attend them
U1 Representative (elected in September 2013)
- Act as a liaison between the U1 students and the CSUS, responsible for communicating with them
- Representing their views at our meetings
- Serves a vice-chair of the executive council (it is a VP position)
Math & CS, Bio & CS, Physics & CS, Software Engineering, Games Focus, and Minor Reps
- Responsible for communicating the affairs of the CSUS with the student bodies of their respective program
- Representing the concern of students of their program to the CSUS at CSUS meetings
- Proposing and organizing events every semester targeted towards their respective programs in order to foster community amongst students in that program
Women in CS Rep
- Represent women in the field of computer science by informing the female contingency in CS about opportunities targeted towards women (networking events, hackathons, etc)
- Reach out to U0 females to promote women's involvement in computer science
- Facilitation of mentorship relationships between female computer science students and professors
Business Liaison
- Responsible for fostering connections with businesses
- Seek out sponsorship opportunities for the CSUS
- Seek out potential internship opportunities for computer science students, and organize opportunities for business professionals to share their expertise with students
- Represent McGill computer science students to the corporate world
Student Liaison
- Organize class announcements to inform students of upcoming events and affairs of the CSUS
- Collecting feedback on events and council proceedings from students
- Reach out to members of the CS community and collect their opinions, ideas, criticisms, and suggestions (for example by attending all events and communicating with participants)
