Title: Computational Landscape Ecology Lab
Event Details/Announcement:
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHER
We are currently seeking motivated students to do undergraduate research in computing-intensive landscape ecology applications. Students will join a dynamic and growing lab of graduate and undergraduate students working on a wide range of landscape ecology projects that demand a heavy component of computing power, including:
1) spatial and statistical patterns of landscape metrics at continental and regional scales
2) regional estimation of lake carbon content with remote sensing, GIS, and Bayesian estimation in 10**6 lakes in Quebec
3) forest connectivity estimation and validation at regional and continental scales, using Circuitscape
Successful candidates will have strong programming experience, ideally in R, Matlab, or Python. Depending on the project, specific course or work experience with certain tools will be of especially high value, including: remote sensing, GIS, simulation modeling, data mining techniques in very large data sets and coursework in statistics. In this group, students are soon given real research projects that require them to think broadly and deeply about topics that, if successful, will serve as pilot work for PhD and MS projects. The undergraduate projects of several students have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
Canadian students who would be eligible for federal and provincial scholarships are given high priority. Interested students can send a CV, an unofficial grade transcript, and the names of three references to:
