The first ConnectMcGill unconference to be held on Saturday October 31, 2009 in McLennon's Cyberthèque Pod1 from 1 - 4 pm. The unconference will be on Django, and given by Ivan Savov, a McGill PhD candidate in Computer Science. This event is designed to be informal and no prior skills are assumed. Just bring your laptop, curiosity and enthusiasm to learn and collaborate.
Programming websites is the core competence of web-based start-ups and a web presence can be an important component of any project. For this reason, it is valuable to develop some basic web developer skills.
The first ConnectMcGill un-conference workshop will be about the Django framework and how it can be used to build database driven websites quickly. Topics of interest will include a brief history of the web, an introduction to the ideas of MVC and how Django maps them to templates, views and models. To demonstrate the concepts, we will build a simple web application from scratch. The programming will be in python, but the talk will be accessible to people not familiar with python. Please bring your laptops if you want to follow with the coding.
